Three "Rules" For Neckline and Occasions
Spring has sprung, and Summer is just around the corner.
For me, that always means it's time for me to take stock of my wardrobe and
have a look at what the coming months have in store for me.
In a post-pandemic world, weddings and special occasions are soon
to be back on the table.
Let's take a close look at what different necklines are available for events and moods.
To keep things simple, we will start with three golden rules before taking a closer look at specific occasions.
Three "Rules" For Neckline and Occasions
Look, rules are meant to be broken, but if you'd like a trick
or two to impress with your knowledge of style and etiquette,
follow one or two of these fashion commands.
1. Casual Dress = Dress in Whatever Makes Feel Comfortable
For some people,
that may look like jeans and a t-shirt, but I, for one,
have always been a massive fan of comfortable dresses.
The more casual the invitation, the easier it'll be to go
for a higher neckline—no need to mess around with strapless bras and
tugging everything in place.
Why not combine the effortless hoodie with a chic dress?
2. When in Doubt, Less Cleavage is More
If you're worried your decolletage may offend at an event,
take the worry out of it and leave more to the imagination.
Nothing makes a person less likely to have a sparkling
personality than worry at the back of their mind.
All covered up doesn't have to mean boring or stuffy, though.
If your neckline is high, show off more legs!
The middy-lengths are better off with more revealing necklines.
3. Cocktails Mean Playful yet Polished
In the world of necklines, this means you can bring out playful cut-outs and exciting colors.
You want to be able to stand out in a candlelit room and keep cool
enough to go on for a night of dancing.
Occasion: Picnic or BBQ
As the weather warms up and outdoor meet-ups remain the safest bet,
you have to figure out a way to impress friends and
family in this casual setting.
BBQ season is all about showing off your style while still being comfortable
and ready to adapt to a variety of different weather changes.
Sudden showers? Hotter than expected temperatures?
A need for a cardigan? We've got you covered.
Show off your colorful taste and combine it with
a creative neckline that won't be covered up if you need to grab a scarf or cardigan to ward off the shivers.
A wrap dress and its flattering v-neckline is always on-trend
and allows you to take some pressure off your belly if you've had one too many cocktail sausages.
By the way, combining florals with an outdoor theme is never a bad idea.
Occasion: Cocktails
Is your favorite cocktail bar open and ready to show you
what a good margarita tastes like?
Cocktail attire has no hard and fast rules,
making it the ultimate place to make a statement without needing to be overly worried about the weather.
You want all eyes on you and sticking to a classic round neckline
is a fabulous way to do this.
The bodycon fit and midi length coupled with the stand-out fabric
is the ultimate way to create a smoldering look.
Oooh, la la, it looks like somebody will be getting a free drink or two tonight!
Occasion: Summer Soiree
The Summer Soiree is the slightly more formal cousin of the BBQ.
Chunky heels will save you any embarrassment when it comes to
needing to navigate that fancy lawn.
Have you considered channeling Brigitte Bardot with
an off-the-shoulder neckline?
Bardot is that beautiful sweet spot between innocence and sex appeal.
Work it! An additional plus to wearing something chic and
off the shoulder?
No awkward tan lines.
Don't forget to put on sunscreen all the same.
Lobster is for eating at the soiree, not for imitating the next day.
Occasion: Wedding Reception or Ceremony
You've made it to the most formal out of all of these occasions.
Remember, no matter how fabulous you look, you can not outshine the bride.
I know I said we were done with the rules section,
but you know never to wear white to a wedding, right?
Phew, you sure dodged a potential faux pas there.
Necklines for wedding guests lean more towards the demure,
especially when attending ceremonies in churches.
If you're only attending the reception, you can flash a little more skin.
A nice halter-neckline is a 1950-style classic.
One last wedding tip: check what the bridesmaids are wearing.
Accidentally blending in with the bridal party can make for some awkward situations!
Conclusion
You can easily integrate your preferred neckline into most occasions.
Generally, the more formal you get, the more covered up you will be
expected to be, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with prints
and styles.
Don't forget. Your mood also plays an essential role in choosing your
neckline. Are you feeling a little shy?
Today may not be the day for a plunging decolletage.
Are you feeling flirty? Let your neckline do some flirting for you.
